For a house: count systems, not just rooms
A home may have separate equipment for an addition, an upper floor or a detached space. Tell the estimator which areas are connected to each unit, if you know. Describe accessible equipment locations and any recent remodeling. Do not open sealed panels to work this out yourself.
For an apartment or condo: establish responsibility
Check whether the equipment serves only your unit and whether management must approve contractor access. Shared exhaust or central equipment may require a building-level project. Ask about parking, service elevators, appointment hours and protection of common areas before choosing a date.
Compare the written work
Make sure the estimate identifies included ducts and components, the way debris will be collected, and any inaccessible areas. Ask how added work is approved. Discuss delicate finishes, pets and household scheduling needs before the visit rather than at the door.
